Hot, Sunny Weather Alert




Can a dog really get sunburned?  Yes!  Although the fur on a dog does protect them somewhat, several areas on the body that are in danger of getting a burn:
  • The bottom of their paws
  • The nose
  • The tummy
Sunburns can occur in less than 20 minutes.  What can you do to prevent this?  Use sun block!  It is safe to use human sun block. Before you head out into hot, sunny weather you should carefully the lotion onto the tummy and nose of your dog.  If you are walking with your dog outside, take notice of how hot surfaces are.  You may not notice just how hot that pavement gets, as you will not feel it through your shoes.  Walk on the grass or in the shade when the temperatures rise.

If you dog does appear to have gotten a sunburn, take them to their veterinarian who should be able to give you an ointment to apply to the burnt skin.
