Homemade Dog Food
Overview

No one
would readily eat dog food, and have you ever wondered why?  If manufactured dog food is so healthy and contains "real" meat and excellent food ingredients, why would we all scoff at the idea of eating it?   The answer, as we all should admit,  is that manufacture dog food is not real food in any sense of the term in which we expect food to be.

So, why then, should we feed it to our puppy or dog?  The answer is that we should not.

"Get high quality dog food!" many say.  Well, the truth is that the only difference between high and low quality manufacture dog food is the amount of fillers.  If you are not sure what a filler is, we will talk about that in a moment, but trust me...you would not want to eat them!  And neither should your dog.

Let's take a quick look at the elements of manufactured dog food and home cooked dog meals:

Recommended By Vets - Did you know that any manufactured dog food can legally have the label of "Recommended by Veterinarians" if only 1 vet recommends it?   That is 1 vet out of millions.

Fillers - One of the worst elements of all.   Fillers are empty, useless ingredients which "pump" up the actual food itself to make it appear as if there is more than there really is and cause your dog to feel full...when in fact they are ingesting worthless elements which contain zero nutrients!   They are not absorbed by a dog's body and are quickly expelled as a dog's digestive system does not recognize them as a food source.  And this is what some people give their dog as a food source.

Behavioral Issues -  2 main behaviorism issues are directly connected to manufactured dog food: Eating grass and eating feces.  Both can cause health issues and the latter certainly is disturbing.   As your dog ingests those fillers found in manufactured food,  your dog will feel full, however his or her body will be craving nutrients that the fillers did not supply to them. In a instinctual urge to consume what the body needs, dogs will then eat grass or worse yet, consume their own feces or that of another dog (usually a dog who was fed excellent food).

Allergies - Allergies to dog food is one of the most common allergies that affects toy and small breed dogs.   This can cause upset stomachs, vomiting, diarrhea, and external symptoms such as dry skin, intense itching (which can lead to sores) and a dull coat.  The best method of stopping allergies and identifying the ingredient that is causing the problems is via homemade dog treats and homemade dog food.   In this way, you can make sure your pup is receiving the nutrients they need, while at the same time finding out what he or she is allergic to.

Wheat - For those who already know that their dog is allergic to wheat (one of the most common food elements that bothers a dog), you can make delicious wheat-free food, small dog specific for optimal health.

Teething - Why watch your puppy struggle with the teething phase, when you can homemade dog food recipes that will greatly help with teething discomfort.

Marketing Schemes - Puppy food, adult food, senior food, pregnancy food...When you home cook for your dog,  you do not need to worry about the age of your dog when correctly home cooking.   My homemade dog food recipes fit any toy or small breed dog, of any age.

Raw Food Diets - Scientists have traced the modern dog all the way back to 4 specific wolves - amazing!  Having originated from wild animals, our pets still have the instinct to eat raw meat.  This does not mean simply putting raw hamburg into the dog bowl!  There are steps to take first and certain ingredients to use to ensure your dog is eating properly...you may wish to find out if your pet likes this.

Tummy Trouble Times -  There will be times when your dog is having nausea or diarrhea, perhaps recovering from a treatment or just having an "off day" and dealing with an upset tummy.   For those times, it is important to know about the proper  "Upset Tummy Foods".

Trust - Your dog trusts you to feed them. They stand there looking so cute, practically drooling while you prepare their dinner.  They get so happy and excited as you place down their bowl.    Do you want to be placing down fillers (plus additives, coloring agents and other unhealthy ingredients)?  Or do you want to feed them home cooked food specifically for toy and small breed dog and know that the only elements your dog is ingesting are healthy, nutritious and ingredients that your dog's body actually needs.
